Chatard started off slowly before rolling in its almost annual extinguishing of Danville’s football season.

The Trojans defeated Danville 49-6 on Friday night. It was the 10th time last 13 years the two have faced off in the postseason, and the 10th victory for Chatard.

Sam Jost ran for 91 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries and Alex Kimack added 83 yards and two scores on 24 attempts for the Trojans.

Chatard was unable to run the ball effectively on offense early, but the defense and special teams started off red hot.  The defense forced a punt after giving up only one first down and special teams blocked a punt which set up the offense at the Danville 10-yard line. The Trojans turned it over at the Danville 1.

Chatard’s Noah Schrader blocked Danville’s next punt and Michael Annee recovered in the end zone for a touchdown. The Trojans led 7-0 at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter did not see much offense from either team.  Chatard’s Justin Bennett scored on an interception, returning the ball 33 yards for Chatard’s only points of the second quarter.

Danville finally put points on the board scoring on a fourth-and-goal from the 1-yard line when Autry Pickens barreled in with 16 seconds until half.

Jost stepped in for Kimack as Chatard’s primary ballcarrier in the second half and gave the team a boost.  The Trojans scored five touchdowns in the second half and the defense gave up nothing.  The scores included two short rushes by Kimack, a 2-yard rush by Jost, a 20-yard reception by tight end Henry Hill and a short rush by sophomore running back Charlie Sexauer.

Chatard advanced to play south side rival Roncalli for the Sectional 22 championship.  Chatard beat Roncalli 35-20 on Sept. 6.
