The Alumni Game is over, and Lewis Jackson’s last-second shot over Brandon Brantley sealed one more win for Gene Keady on the court named for him in Team Black’s 73-70 victory over Team Gold.

An impressive group of Boilermakers played. On Team Black: Brett Buscher, Chris Kramer, Bobby Riddell, Tim Ervin, Todd Foster, Marcus Green, Kenneth Lowe, Jackson, Troy Lewis, BJ Carretta, Justin Jennings, Todd Mitchell, Ian Stanback and Brian Cardinal. On Team Gold: David Teague, Chad Kerkhoff, Austin Parkinson, Tarrance Crump, Dave Barrett, Jaraan Cornell, Ryne Smith, Travis Best, Roy Hairston, Mark Wohlford, Brantley, Matt Kiefer, Carson Cunningham and Chris Reid.

Perhaps more impressive was the list of former players who returned but didn’t play: Minnesota Timberwolves rookie Robbie Hummel, JaJuan Johnson of the Houston Rockets and Carl Landry of the Golden State Warriors. I’ll play point guard myself and win with that team.

The game was played in sweltering 90-plus degree heat in the non-air conditioned Mackey Arena, and it was actually shortened because of the temperature and humidity. The shooting inside the building only made the temperature rise, yet hearing the names once again were like a blast of cool air for about 7,000 fans.
