Dustin Keller committed to Toledo, but Joe Tiller wasn’t having it.

Purdue offered a scholarship, Keller de-committed and the rest is history. Tiller turned Keller from a wide receiver into a dynamic tight end, a big target who could stretch the field. He finished his career in 2007 with 142 catches, 1,882 yards and 16 touchdowns.

“One of the most physically gifted tight ends not only to play at Purdue, but in the Big Ten,” Doug Griffiths, Indy Sports Legends correspondent and former Gold and Black editor, said. “His physical tools allowed him to run over would-be tacklers if necessary as well as make defenders look silly in the open field.”

As a senior, Keller caught 68 passes for 881 yards and seven scores.

“He was a tight end with tremendous athletic ability, Purdue play-by-play man Tim Newton said. “You could line him up anywhere, and defenses needed to account for him. He was a real game-breaker.”

It’s hard to explain how dynamic the current starting tight end for the New York Jets was, so here’s a video by YouTube username miksmith22.
