Connor Christiansen threw two touchdown passes and ran for a score in a busy fourth quarter to help Fishers defeat Avon 34-9 on Friday night.

The Tigers proved they are not to be dismissed in the tough Hoosier Crossroads Conference race and perhaps more. Avon came into the game undefeated at 3-0 with confidence and a key win over Hamilton Southeastern Royals. Fishers, holding a 2-1 record, needed to win to keep pace.

Alex Sahakian made a 43-yard field goal to give Fishers an early 3-0 lead.

Fishers then suffered its only defensive let-down when Avon’s Mikell caught a short crossing pass that he converted into an 80-yard touchdown. Down 6-3, Fishers would block the extra point, a sign of things to come as the Tigers would dominate the the rest of the game.

The Avon offense was hounded all night by the game MVP, defensive tackle Cody Moore, along with Ryan Coleman and the linebacking powerhouse of Rob Peck, Matt Van Hoosen and Liam Duddy.

Fishers took the lead back after a 6-yard touchdown by Maurice Campbell at the 10:43 mark in the 2nd quarter. Avon then added a Nyles Edward 41 yard field goal with 6:07 left in the first half.

A key drive late in the first half saw Avon reach the Fishers 5-yard line. Avon was shut down by a determined Tiger defense, penalties and a key 3rd down sack by Duddy that led to Avon attempting missing a 39-yd field goal wide right.

The second half was further dominated by Fishers defense and penalties that killed Avon’s chances of keeping pace.

After a 3rd quarter field goal, Fishers poured it on with 21 points in the 4th quarter.

Avon had no answers and Fishers served notice that 2012 Hoosier Crossroads Conference campaign is again wide open and likely to come down to final week. Each weekly opponent will be taken seriously but Brownsburg is now the only undefeated team in the conference. Matters could get further shaken up with Avon visiting Brownsburg next week.

Next week: Fishers at Lafayette Harrison
