Purdue dominated in 34-9 loss to Penn State

Just like in the Wisconsin game, Purdue came out of the gate strong and scored early against Penn State.

And just like in the Wisconsin game, the Boilermakers did little more until the game was out of reach. The Boilermakers were overwhelmed in a 34-9 loss to the Nittany Lions that did nothing to cool the hot seat for coach Danny Hope.

One Hope-less fan doesn’t want to be seen.

New starting quarterback Robert Marve put in a gutty performance given the fact that he had next to no protection. Many times, he was running for his life within seconds of the snap. He was at his best when he ditched the playbook, made something happen with his feet and found a receiver down the field.

Purdue’s defense surrendered 506 yards and was on the field much too long. The running game was a non factor and did nothing to slow Penn State’s pressure.

Now, Purdue will need to win out to be bowl eligible, starting with next week’s trip to Iowa.

Meanwhile, Indiana continued its surge with a second straight victory that makes a trip to Indianapolis for the Big Ten title game a real possibility. The Hoosiers defeated Iowa 24-21 on Saturday to move within one game of Wisconsin for the top spot in the Leaders Division among teams eligible for the postseason. The Hoosiers host Wisconsin next week.

It can’t get any worse for the Boilermakers. Can it?

Here is my Associated Press recap:
