Indiana has crowned its state champions in football, so it is now time to turn our attention to the high school basketball season.  Each week I will review the big area games from the previous week, and I’ll let you know about important games that are coming up this week.  There has already been some turnover in the AP and Coaches Top Ten (click on either one to look at that particular poll for this week), so let’s take a look:

Warren Central 61, Cathedral 60

Cathedral was the preseason #1, so this of course was a huge win for Warren Central and coach Greg Graham.  Warriors senior Devin Davis was outstanding in this game, scoring 30 points and grabbing 15 rebounds.  Cathedral was without standout forward Collin Hartman for this game, who was injured in practice earlier in the week.

Pike 64, Ben Davis 63

The Red Devils held off the Giants in this west side battle.  Three players scored in double-figures for Pike, including senior Jordan Pickett with 17 points, along with fellow seniors Zavier Turner and Jamie Rutherford, who each added 15 points.

Games to Watch This Week:

4A #1 Carmel at 4A #6 North Central

The Greyhounds are led by senior point guard Michael Volovic who has added 3-point range to his already impressive list of skills.  North Central has followed up a season-opening loss to Pike with blowout victories over Richmond and Gary Wallace, and are led by freshman guard Eron Gordon.

4A #10 Tech at 4A #5 Cathedral

Tech is coming off of a one-point defeat at the hands of Brebeuf, while Cathedral rebounded from their season-opening loss to Warren Central by defeating #8 Broad Ripple.  Indiana recruit Collin Hartman is expected to return for this game after missing two games for the Irish with an injury suffered in practice.  Tech features Trey Lyles, who de-committed from IU.
