Hoosiers: What’s Hot and What’s Cold

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Each week I’ll run down what’s hot and what’s cold with Indiana football. Here’s my take from Saturday’s 41-35 loss to Navy:IUlogo

HOT

Offensive line – Pass protection seemed pretty consistent, even as Hoosiers began throwing nearly every down.

Ted Bolser – Tight end finishes with five receptions for 56 yards and serves as major threat in red zone, production the Hoosiers will need all season.

Nate Sudfeld – Quarterback authors signature performance of his young career by going 31 of 42 for 363 yards and four touchdowns. He even rushed for 35 yards on six carries. Might want to start the guy.

COLD

Kevin Wilson – Decision to go for a fourth down, in the first quarter, from his own 34, is a head-scratcher. Afterward, Wilson said, “I have to get us ready to play because we didn’t start ready.” For that there is no excuse.

Rushing defense – Hoosiers give up 6.5 yards per carry and five touchdowns on the ground, as the defense gets absolutely trampled.

Penalties – Indiana called for six penalties, costing 51 yards. The closest thing to a defensive stop was a third-down incompletion negated by Michael Hunter’s pass interference, which was likely an unnecessary misplay.
