Carmel crushes Lawrence North 49-9

Prior to the start of its game vs. Lawrence North, rain threatened to ruin Carmel’s homecoming agenda.
While Mother Nature slightly altered the festivities, it had no effect on the football team during the Greyhounds’ 49-9 blowout win over the Wildcats.
Lawrence North produced just one first down and 23 yards of total offense in the first half. It was much of the same in the second half, as the first time the Wildcats crossed into Greyhound territory was with just over seven minutes left in the third quarter on a kickoff return. Lawrence North finished with 116 yards of offense; Carmel had 393, with 292 yards rushing.
Quarterback John Lampe opened the scoring with a 3-yard touchdown run that came after an interception by Sam Storey, which gave the Greyhounds a first and goal at the 3-yard line. Lampe would later toss a 4-yard touchdown pass to running back Shakir Paschall to extend the lead to 14-0 after the first quarter.
It was all Greyhounds in the second quarter as well. Austin Roberts ran around left end from 14 yards out, Paschall added his second touchdown of the night on a 3-yard run and quarterback Isaac James ran the ball in from the 8 right before the half to give Carmel a 35-0 halftime lead.
Carmel continued the momentum in the second half, as Roberts hauled in a 35-yard pass from Lampe to increase the lead to 42-0 and reserve running back Tobias Watkins got his first varsity touchdown from 23 yards out.
The Wildcats finally got on the board in the fourth quarter thanks to a 30-yard field goal from Bruce Stombaugh, and Trevon Carson found Gano Williams III on a 30-yard scoring play.
Paschall would finish the night with 80 yards rushing and Chris Perkins added 78.
Carmel moves to 3-2, and 2-1 in the MIC conference, and travels to 1-4 North Central next Friday. Lawrence North is now 0-5 and hosts 6A #1 Center Grove next.
