Purdue’s Brees, Webster, Allen, Henry honored by Big Ten

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Ray Guy Award finalist Cody Webster has been named the Big Ten’s Eddleman-Fields Punter of the Year. He was also named first team All-Big Ten by the conference’s coaches and media. Cornerback Ricardo Allen was named second team All-Big Ten by the conference’s media and honorable mention by the coaches and Rob Henry was named Purdue’s Sportsmanship Award honoree.
It was also previously announced that former Boilermaker quarterback Drew Brees was named the 2013 Dungy-Thompson Humanitarian Award recipient.
Webster, a senior from Harrisburg, Pa., completed his final season at Purdue with 70 punts for 3,047 yards, an average of 43.5 yards per kick. He booted 17 punts 50 or more yards, including a pair of 73-yarders, and placed 24 of his 70 punts inside the opposition’s 20-yard line. He ended the regular season first in the Big Ten and 21st nationally in punting average, while helping the Boilermakers’ punting unit to a conference-leading and second-place finish nationally in net punting (41.7).
Webster wrapped up his Purdue career second in both total punts (232) and average (43.0).
The Eddleman-Fields Punter of the Year award is named after former Illinois punter Dike Eddleman and Michigan State punter Brandon Fields.
