During Purdue’s 3-0 week, the 6-foot-9, 250-pound forward from Fort Wayne, Indiana, averaged 15.0 points, 10.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game while shooting 15-of-26 (.577) from the field and 12-of-14 (.857) from the free throw line.

In last Monday’s 80-53 win over IUPUI, Swanigan recorded his third double-double of the season with 11 points, a career-high 14 rebounds and four assists. Among his 14 rebounds were 13 defensive rebounds, which tied for the fourth most in a game at Purdue since defensive rebounds became a category before the 1986-87 season. His 14 rebounds were the most for a freshman since Wayne Walls had 18 against Michigan State on Jan. 2, 1975.

Then, in Wednesday’s 93-55 win over Howard, Swanigan recorded his fourth double-double with a career-high 19 points, 12 rebounds and three assists. He made 7-of-10 shots from the field in just 24 minutes of action.

In Saturday’s 95-64 win over Youngstown State, Swanigan totaled 15 points with a career-high six assists and five rebounds.

Swanigan now has four double-doubles on the season, the third most by a Purdue freshman in school history and the fifth most for a freshman nationally this season. For the season, he is averaging 9.9 points, 9.2 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game, being one of three freshmen nationally to average 9.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game (LSU’s Ben Simmons, Marquette’s Henry Ellenson).

Swanigan leads the Big Ten in rebounding (9.2 RPG) and already has surpassed 100 rebounds for the season (101), coming in just 11 games.

The No. 11-ranked Boilermakers are 11-0 and head to Indianapolis on Saturday for the Crossroads Classic against No. 18-ranked Butler. The game will tip off at 5 p.m. ET from Bankers Life Fieldhouse and will be televised by the Big Ten Network.
