The Indiana Pacers and point guard George Hill have agreed to a new deal, Hill’s co-agent, Michael Whitaker, wrote in a text message on Tuesday morning.

“Yes it’s true,” Whitaker wrote. “George is excited about his return to his hometown Pacers.”

Hill, 26, a restricted free agent, will sign once the NBA’s moratorium period ends on July 11.

Whitaker did not disclose financial terms or the length of the deal. He said the IUPUI product is an example for up-and-coming players.

“I’m proud of what George accomplished, never playing in the NCAA tournament and becoming a first-round pick in 2008 and securing his extension,” Whitaker wrote. “It should provide hope and inspiration to the future mid-majors of achieving their dreams as a professional basketball player.”

Hill joined the Pacers after a draft-day deal in 2011 that sent Indiana draft pick Kawhi Leonard to San Antonio, and he averaged 9.6 points and 2.9 assists per game last season. He began the season as a productive player off the bench, then became the starter after Darren Collison was hurt and kept the job through the Pacers’ playoff run.

The Pacers are still trying to reach a deal with free agent center Roy Hibbert.
