WWE’s Hunico discusses getting tombstoned on Raw, his future

ISL Editor Cliff Brunt interviewed World Wrestling Entertainent superstar Hunico on Thursday in advance of SmackDown on July 31 in Indianapolis. Billed as being from Juarez, Mexico, Hunico wears a muscle shirt and a bandana, rolls to the ring on a lowrider bike and often switches back and forth between English and Spanish. He grew up a fan of the high-flying Lucha Libre style of wrestling and lists Rey Mysterio, Jr., Eddie Guerrero, Chavo Guerrero and Juventud Guerrera among his heroes.

Tickets are still available.

Q: You got tombstoned by the Undertaker on the 1000th episode of Monday Night Raw. What was that experience like?

A: Obviously, nobody wants to get tombstoned and get knocked out in the ring. I understand the magnitude of the 1000th episode. Big or small, I was in it, and it was very important to be there. I’ve never heard a reaction like that in my life.

Q: What are your goals in the near future?

A: I would like to start something with Rey Mysterio. I grew up watching him. It would be great for my career and great for the fans. Obviously, Rey Mysterio means a lot to me and to a lot of people, especially the Mexican people. He’s one of the pioneers who opened a lot of doors for the Mexican wrestlers back in the day.

Q: You wrestled in Chikara Pro before joining the WWE. What do you recall from that experience?

A: I got a lot of opportunities there. I got a little more notice in the United States, from people who hadn’t seen me before. It was one of those times I enjoyed. I got to try different stuff. To me, it was very nice to be able to do that.

Q: How would you describe your wrestling style to a casual fan?

A: I think I’m the most versatile wrestler in the WWE. I can do the high-flying stuff, I can do the mat wrestling, I can do the submission. I’ve tried since I was very young to be an all-around wrestler. I think I’ve demonstrated that.

Q: You’ve had success both in singles and as a tag team wrestler with Camacho. Which will we see more of from you in the future?

A: I would love to have an opportunity to have a tag team title (with Camacho). That is something that I would love to do. You’ve got to start from the bottom up. But we’ve been partners for a long time.

Q: Why is Camacho a good partner?

A: He’s very loyal to me. He knows how to work with me. We have a chemistry. We have power and finesse. He’s a lot more power. If somebody’s bigger than me, I just say, hey, Camacho, take care of this for me.

Q: So what can the fans expect to see on Tuesday?

A: All the Smackdown stars will be there. Sheamus, Cody Rhodes, Christian. Hunico and Camacho are going to be there. I hope they come.
