CREAZZO, Italy “ Freshman guard Rapheal Davis’ game-high 23 points and a pair of double-doubles from young post players were part of a dominating offensive performance that spurred the Purdue men’s basketball team to a 105-69 win over Vicenza All-Star on Tuesday night.
Davis knocked down 11-of-14 (.786) shots from the floor, including several acrobatic finishes at the rim, and added five rebounds and three steals en route to being named the player of the game. He was honored for his efforts with a trophy in front of a crowd of nearly 500 fans in Creazzo.
The Boilermakers shot 51.8 percent as a team in the victory, including a mark of 56.9 percent on shots inside the arc. Purdue was once again dominant on the offensive glass with a total of 27 offensive
rebounds on the night. Freshman center A.J. Hammons led the way with eight boards on the offensive end, while Hale collected seven.
Both Hammons and Hale finished Tuesday night’s victory with double-doubles, marking the second in three games for the latter. Hammons tallied 13 points and 13 rebounds on the night, and Hale finished with 11 points and 12 boards.
Sophomore guard Anthony Johnson added 14 points to the Boilermaker effort despite seeing only 13 minutes of action due to foul trouble. Senior guard Dru Anthrop dished out a team-high five assists, while freshman guard Ronnie Johnson chipped in with four.
Anthrop, who earned a starting assignment on Tuesday after a spirited effort on Sunday night, also shared game-high honors with Davis in the steals department, as each notched three on the evening. Through three games in Italy, Anthrop has 10 total steals, good for the team lead with an average of 3.3 per contest.
Sophomore forward Jacob Lawson had a strong game on the defensive end, leading Purdue with a pair of blocked shots.
The Boilermakers will leave the Venice area on Wednesday and travel to Lake Como, where they will have free time for the rest of the day. On Thursday, the team will take a boat tour of the lake and then play the final of four games in Italy, taking on Amici del Campetto at 8 p.m. local time (2 p.m. ET).
