Purdue defeats Amici del Campetto 108-72; goes 3-1 on Italy trip

CASTELLANZA, Italy – Junior forward Sandi Marcius recorded a double-double and six Boilermakers scored in double figures as the Purdue men’s basketball team routed Amici del Campetto, 108-72, on Thursday night to wrap up its four-game Italian tour on a high note.

finale to lead the way for an offensive display that saw Purdue shoot 52.4 percent from the field as a team. Byrd knocked down 5-of-7 shots from three-point territory, including deep triples on each of Purdue’s final three possessions of the first half, while Johnson was an efficient 7-of-11 (.636) from the field. Davis continued his strong play with a 7-of-14 performance on the offensive end.Marcius tallied 11 points in the victory, while freshman center A.J. Hammons also had 11 and junior forward Travis Carroll chipped in with 10 points.

In front of his friends and family from Croatia for the third time on the tour, Marcius continued to dominate the glass, finishing with 12 rebounds for his first double-double of the tour.

Davis nearly missed a double-double on Thursday with nine boards, and sophomore forward Jacob Lawson had seven in the win, six of which came in the second half. Hammons and sophomore guard Anthony Johnson had six rebounds apiece for the Boilermakers.

Freshman Ronnie Johnson directed the Purdue offense to the tune of 10 assists against just two turnovers, while scoring seven points of his own. Anthony Johnson tallied five assists and turned the ball over just once, and senior guard Dru Anthrop handed out four assists without committing a turnover.

The Boilermakers will have an early departure on Friday morning for the long trip home that will take them from Milan to New York City to Chicago and finally back to Mackey Arena.
