GREENSBURG, Ind.– Franklin has had its way with Greensburg each of the past two seasons on the gridiron, but the Grizzly Cubs weren’t ready for the Pirates’ ground attack on Friday night.

Class 3A Greensburg rushed for 305 yards on 52 carries to thump visiting Class 5A Franklin 31-15 at Shiver’s Field and ended the schools’ three-year series with a win.

(Franklin’s) had our number the last couple of years and to be able to get them on our own field the last year that we play them is pretty special, Pirates coach Scott Moore said.

Greensburg (3-0) was very deliberate on the ground as it made just two pass attempts for 15 yards. The Pirates scored on each of its first five drives against Franklin (2-1) to put the game out of reach at 31-0 early in the third quarter.

Senior halfback Elliott Green led Greensburg with 11 rushes for 77 yards and three scores. Senior halfback Derek Chambers had 11 touches for 58 yards and one touchdown, and senior fullback Ryan Martin had 13 carries for 103 yards.

Give them credit because they beat us up front, said Franklin coach Brian Harbin. They ran the ball right down our throats and didn’t do anything that we didn’t prepare for.

I’ve got to do a better job of coaching our football team to get them better prepared.

Franklin backup quarterback David Stier, a junior, entered the game in the fourth quarter to go 5-for-7 passing for 50 yards with two touchdowns and one interception.

Cubs junior wide receiver Nick King made five catches for 39 yards and one touchdown. Sophomore Ryan Torrence caught one ball for 15 yards and a score in the final stanza.

We had a couple of personnel changes there late in the game with some guys that may get some more playing time now, Harbin said. They did some nice things once they got on the field.
