FISHERS, Ind. — Harvey Allen ran for 142 yards and two touchdowns to help the Fishers Tigers beat Westfield Shamrocks 40-30 in a Hoosier Crossroads Conference matchup on Friday night.

Westfield, with an impressive aerial attack, lacked the strength to stay with a stronger, more balanced team like the Fishers Tigers that let the running game bring victory this week. Fishers ran for 265 yards to offset Westfield QB Nick Ferrer’s precision passing. Ferrer completed 32 of 47 passes for 347 yards.

Fishers drove down the field on the first possession and went ahead early with a 42-yard field goal by Alex Sahakian, but Westfield answered with a high paced offense and Johnny Crawford’s 16-yard touchdown run that gave them an early 7-3 lead.

Fishers’ next possession resulted in another Sahakian field but they trailed a dangerous Westfield offense 7-6 at the end of the first quarter.

Fishers defense then kept the Westfield offense from extending their lead as Westfield offense had glitches with their own hurry-up schemes. Westfield’s inability to keep the opposing defense off balance was fortunate as the Fishers defense was able to get adjusted and keep Westfield from taking a bigger lead. Capitalizing on Westfield’s inability to put more points up on the board, Fishers added a 12-yard touchdown run by Harvey Allen at the 10:20 mark of the 2nd quarter and again five minutes later on a Maurice Campbell 18-yard touchdown run.

After early concerns, Fishers led at half 19-7.

The teams would then trade touchdowns the rest of the way.

Fishers needed the win after a loss to the rival Hamilton Southeastern Royals and showed they are still a contender, but need some sharpening to control strong opponents.

Westfield is worth tracking and I expect they will get an unexpected victory or two before the season is over.

Next week: Fishers against Avon at Lucas Oil Stadium, Sept 7th, 8:15.
