Friday Night Lights Prognostications: IHSAA Sectional Finals

By CRAIG DRAGASH

Another week of sectionals, another down week for Dragash; the good news is I improved from the previous week when I went 0-4 by going 3-4 in week two.  I know, everyone out there had Fishers beating HSE by five touchdowns, right?

We’ve reached the IHSAA sectional finals.  Unfortunately, many of the better matchups occurred in the first two weeks of sectional play, but there are certainly some games to take a crack at this week.  Four games this time; here are my sectional final picks…

Pike at Avon

Pike has two big wins over Ben Davis and Zionsville to reach this point.  Avon took care of business against Decatur Central, then defeated a good Terre Haute North team to set up this matchup.  Pike has proven they can play at a high level.

Pike 34, Avon 21

Roncalli at Cathedral

This is a tough one to call; it’s hard to pick against Cathedral because of the tournament-prep schedule they play, but Roncalli is really playing well.  Roncalli handled Greenwood by three touchdowns last week; I think they’ll carry that momentum into this one.

Roncalli 28, Cathedral 24

Western Boone at Hamilton Heights

Heights has been impressive thus far in the postseason, outscoring their first two opponenents 56-0.  Webo has a tough one here on the road; I picked the Stars before the tournament started, and I’m sticking with them here.

Western Boone 26, Hamilton Heights 23

Greencastle at Chatard

I’ve come under a lot of fire after picking Greencastle to win this sectional.  There are many who think the Tiger Cubs are a mismatch for the Trojans despite the fact that Greencastle has given up 28 points on the season, and 14 of those were to Tri-West last week.  Chatard has looked very good in recent weeks, and many consider the Trojans the favorite despite the success that Greencastle has had.  But in the interest of journalistic integrity, I again am going with my sectional winner here.

Greencastle 21, Chatard 20
