Pacers F Paul George is East Player of the Week

I wrote earlier this season that Paul George had golden opportunity when Danny Granger went down. He’s finally starting to seize it, being named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week. As Danny Granger continues to heal, George is becoming that guy the Pacers have needed. If Granger is even close to his normal self when he returns, the Eastern Conference is in for a long 2013.

NEW YORK, Dec. 17, 2012The Indiana Pacers’ Paul George and the Golden State Warriors’ David Lee today were named Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played Monday, Dec. 10, through Sunday, Dec. 16.

George led the Pacers to a 3-0 week which included wins over Central Division rivals Cleveland and Detroit. George averaged 23.3 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.3 blocks. He shot .474 from three-point range on the week and ranks eighth in the league with 54 made three-point field goals on the season.

Lee helped the Warriors to a 3-1 record which included wins at Miami and Atlanta. Lee tallied 22.8 points on .606 shooting from the field, 12.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.0 steals. He posted a point-rebound double-double in all four contests and extended his double-double streak to seven consecutive games – the longest such streak in the NBA this season.

Dec. 12 vs. Cleveland: Recorded 27 points, seven rebounds and three assists in a 96-81 win over the Cavaliers.
Dec. 14 vs. Philadelphia: Posted 28 points, six rebounds, three blocks and two assists in a 95-85 win over the 76ers.
Dec. 15 @ Detroit: Tallied 15 points, eight rebounds, eight assists and four steals in an 88-77 win over the Pistons.

David Lee, Golden State Warriors
Dec. 10 @ Charlotte: Posted 25 points, 11 rebounds and four assists in a 104-96 win over the Bobcats.
Dec. 12 @ Miami: Tallied 22 points and 13 rebounds in a 97-95 win over the Heat.
Dec. 15 @ Atlanta: Collected 20 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and three steals in a 115-93 win over the Hawks.

Other nominees for the Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week were the Los Angeles Clippers’ Blake Griffin, Miami’s LeBron James, Minnesota’s Nikola Pekovic, New York’s Carmelo Anthony, Oklahoma City’s Kevin Durant, Portland’s LaMarcus Aldridge, San Antonio’s Tony Parker and Toronto’s Jose Calderon.
