With the departures of Victor Oladipo, Cody Zeller and Remy Abell all occurring within a week-and-a-half span, it has been a sad off-season for Indiana fans up to this point as they have watched the core from its 2012-13 Big Ten Championship team all decide to explore opportunities outside of Bloomington.

However, Friday night provided a chance for fans to see Indiana’s 2013 freshman class in action in the Derby Festival Classic in Louisville, as five out of the six of them – Noah Vonleh is competing in the Nike Hoops Summit this weekend – competed in what turned out to be a very good opportunity to see each of them in action.

Troy Williams, the 6-6 forward from Virginia, stood out the most as his 21 points led him to being named MVP. His highlights from the night included a barrage of dunks and drives to the basket, but was not short of a couple long-range shots from the perimeter. Not to mention his second place finish in the dunk contest in which he completed a 360-windmill in his final attempt.

Seven-footer Luke Fischer also put together a good performance with 12 points, six rebounds, two blocks and three steals in 17 minutes. This year’s Mr. Basketball in the state of Wisconsin, Fischer may be asked to come in and contribute right away with the void that Zeller will be leaving, and he showed very well last night against some good competition.

Stanford Robinson, Collin Hartman and Devin Davis were also key contributors in their team’s victory. Robinson had six points and four assists in 20 minutes of play. Hartman added seven points while shooting 2-7 from the field with an assist and two steals, while Davis was able to contribute 14 points in 17 minutes of game action.

This was a positive night for all five of them, getting a first chance for some to play together and an opportunity for Indiana fans see five future Hoosiers come together to be key contributors in their team’s win.
