What a difference five months can truly make.

About five months ago, the Indiana Pacers looked to be a team that would contend for an NBA title for several years. Since that time, the Pacers lost to the Miami Heat in the playoffs, lost Lance Stephenson to free agency and now have most certainly lost their star Paul George for the upcoming season.

George suffered a gruesome injury playing for USA Basketball on Friday night. The looks on the other players’ faces told the story. The game wasn’t even finished out of respect for the Pacers star.

When injuries of this magnitude occur, basketball becomes secondary. Our thoughts and prayers are with Paul George in hopes for a full recovery. Coach K was only focused on the health of George after the incident: “I’d rather not talk about the game. It’s not where our mind is.”

It’s been a rough few months for the Indiana Pacers organization. Larry Bird will wait to hear the full diagnosis of the injury (some reports are suggesting a six to nine month minimum recovery), and may then have some tough decisions to make about the team moving forward.

Several NBA players have tweeted their support of George, including LeBron James: “Made me immediately sick to my stomach! Praying for u a speedy recovery homie!!!”

Injuries are part of the game and can happen at any given moment. George has proven to be a warrior in his career and Pacers fans can expect him to work extremely hard to one day return to the court and make a full recovery.
