Charlestown’s Jason Hawkins is Colts Coach of the Week

From the Indianapolis Colts:

Charlestown’s Jason Hawkins has been named the Colts/NFL Coach of the Week, a program presented by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield.

Hawkins was selected after his Class 3A No. 3 ranked Pirates beat previously unbeaten and No. 5 Corydon Central 47-0.  Charlestown is 7-0 for just the second time in school history.

The 2012 season marks the 13th year the Indianapolis Colts will be recognizing outstanding Indiana High School football coaches through the Colts/NFL Coach of the Week program, presented by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield.

The Charlestown Pirates are making quite the statement this season. Not only are they undefeated, their smallest margin of victory has been 38 points. They’re averaging 58.9 points and 359 yards per game.

However, in the win over Corydon Central, it was the defense that stood out with their second consecutive shutout. The Pirates had received skepticism due to their schedule, but the win over a top five ranked team definitely was a statement for Hawkins’ team.

Coach Hawkins is in his sixth season with the Pirates and has a 47-15 overall record. His first season as head coach was the last time this team went 7-0. They finished the season 9-0 but were eliminated in the opening round of sectionals by Heritage Hills.

Coach Hawkins becomes the first coach from Charlestown High School to be named a Colts Coach of the Week winner.

The Coach of the Week program was designed to recognize high school coaches who transform the best available athletes into high potential football players through their hard work and dedication to young people.
